Solar Island Energy specializes in engineering attractive and efficient structures that provide an exciting way to deliver clean energy.
These structures can serve many purposes at the same time:
- Add architectural interest to any building
- Protection from sun and rain
- Rainwater collection
- Highly visible demonstrations of your commitment to the environment
Virtually any structure can be used as a starting point for a solar energy project. When all benefits are taken into account, a solar project with Solar Island isn’t just good for the environment, it is very good for your business.
For example, one of our hospitality clients asked us to build a solar awning outside a rooftop bar. The awning allowed him to keep the bar open a few more weeks a year and hours a day due to the shading and protection from rain. Additionally, the bar became a popular spot for visitors that wanted to see the solar structure and patronize and environmentally conscious establishment. The solar awning was only slightly more cost than a 30-year fabric awning. Then a year after building the solar awning, the same hotel asked us to build a rooftop restaurant with the roof constructed entirely of solar panels!
We have built solar canopies over parking lots for clients that own retail establishments. The canopies provide shade for customers’ and employees’ cars, and electric vehicle chargers can be integrated into the solar structure for the future (tomorrow). These are very popular for clients that have limited ground or roof space and also want to provide an excellent and attractive amenity for customers and employees.
A solar structure also can be a very visible demonstration of a larger commitment to renewable energy. We have several clients that have build very large rooftop solar arrays. These systems provide all the financial and environmental benefits, but cannot be seen from the ground. So these clients have elected to construct a small canopy over a picnic area or a decorative solar sculpture as a visual focal point; sometimes together with a solar kiosk (see our Solar Kiosk page).
