Looking for solar panel installation in the Bahamas and Caribbean? Are you interested in affordability, reliability, safety, and predictable performance? Please let Solar Island Energy save you time, money and energy by planning, engineering, and managing your solar panel and microgrid project. We are your premier renewable energy company in the Bahamas and Caribbean!
OUR MISSION
We serve island communities that make electricity by burning diesel fuel. There are large-scale energy solutions today, and on the horizon, to migrate mainland population centers away from fossil-fuel electricity. But those solutions don’t fit the limited geography and smaller populations of the Bahamas and Caribbean.
Fossil-fuel electricity in the Caribbean is polluting, expensive, and unreliable. Solar Island Energy is dedicated to flipping that script by employing clean solar energy to help our Private-Island, Utility-Company, and Commercial clients achieve their goals for financial performance, environmental stewardship, and reliability.
We specialize in the innovative application of proven technologies … we do not use our clients’ projects to experiment with new technology. These projects significantly reduce fossil-fuel consumption, reduce energy and water expenses, help manage environmental risk, and improve the bottom line and long-term property investment value.
The enemies of achieving solar-energy and microgrid successes and turning the region away from fossil fuels are risk and uncertainty, unaffordable solutions, and unreliability.
- Risk and Uncertainty – we truly are expert at building progressive certainty to re-risk a project during its early stages. Without certainty in the cost of a project, that project won’t even get to the starting line.
- Affordability – we understand the various financial performance criteria that organizations need to meet to decide to invest, and how to accurately model and communicate that performance.
- Reliability – we deliver proven technologies combined with innovative engineering, consistent quality control, and construction oversight. Our team is local – to keep making clean energy for decades to come.
We are always listening and thinking, developing creative solutions to energy challenges. We strive to make all our clients raving fans of our service and performance. We believe we have the reputation, competence, and capacity to earn your trust, and we work to keep it every day through successful project delivery and achievement of your goals.
Our services focus on FLEXIBILITY. We can provide a concept-to-operation turnkey solution, or deliver a project in phases as part of almost any other team structure that makes sense for our client.
We are true to these beliefs whether we are working in our own back yard or 5,000 miles away.
“When you are good at what you do, and love what you do, and believe in what you do, you will be successful!” – Will Rogers
WHO WE ARE
There are many companies selling solar panels across the Caribbean. Some opened their doors last year, and some will close them next year moving on to some new and different business venture.
Solar Island Energy is different. We have a long, successful track record in the solar-energy industry and we are in this industry and serving the Bahamas and Caribbean for the long term.
Originally founded in 2009, the Solar Island Energy team has experience in renewable energy dating back to the early 1990s. Our American headquarters is in Tampa, Florida and our Caribbean office is in Nassau, Bahamas. We have venture partners in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis.
Marc is a licensed, Professional Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in engineering, construction, development, renewable energy, and applied sciences. He is a NABCEP-certified Solar Installation Professional, and installed his first solar energy system in 1992. He has participated in the design, construction, or development of hundreds of commercial renewable energy and energy efficiency projects across the country and internationally. Marc is Engineer-of-Record for over 400 solar-PV projects and 10 microgrids. He has implemented over 80 large-scale battery based energy-storage projects totaling over 75 MWh of energy storage capacity, and a dozen utility-scale solar projects. Marc also is a NABCEP-certified Systems Inspector, one of only 40 worldwide.
Prior to being immersed full time in the solar-energy industry, Marc held senior positions with a multinational Fortune-100 corporation, an ENR-100 engineering firm, and an internationally-recognized oceanographic research institution. His responsibilities included managing an annual budget of $200M+ in Construction Management for a global data center provider. These positions ranged from building solar-powered undersea equipment, robotics, instrumentation, and marine equipment to engineering and construction of data centers and telecom infrastructure. This diverse experience is the foundation for his expertise in solar energy, advanced technology, and energy performance of commercial buildings. He is involved in a variety of nonprofit and governmental bodies: including over a decade on Planning & Zoning Commissions and five years on the Board of Directors of the US Green Building Council in St Louis including Board President.
Marc is a regular speaker, presenting training and seminars and participating on panel discussions on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and advanced technology topics to a diverse audience from industry trade groups and non-governmental agencies to firefighters and first responders. He is a solar-energy technical advisor to the World Bank, a peer reviewer of hurricane survivability for both the US Department of Energy, National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Rocky Mountain Institute and Clinton Climate Initiative. Recently he was a panel member at the 2017 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum discussing next generation microgrids and in 2018 at the Puerto Rico Solar Energy Industries Association discussing distributed generation, reliability and survivability in the Caribbean.

Our portfolio includes over 700 solar-energy projects and over 80 battery energy storage plants in the US and overseas. Our references include professional sports franchises, universities, utilities, Fortune-100 multi-national companies, and performance venues. Some of our clients have contracted with us for more than 20 projects over time. We are partners with Bahamas Energy and Solar Supplies, Ltd and Island Site Development, with the capacity to engineer and build any size of solar-energy or microgrid project using our own local labor for civil, site, mechanical, and electrical scopes of work.
We attract and retain the best and brightest talent – motivated by our mission and forged into a strong team across the region.
The engineering team is licensed in multiple districts, directed by Licensed Professional Engineers, and we are proud to be a US-Licensed Engineering Corporation; a difficult designation to achieve. The engineering team is also responsible for evaluation and integration of new technologies and optimizing the deployment of more traditional systems. This team has completed many advanced “microgrid” and “diesel-hybrid” projects, including battery storage, fuel cells, electric vehicle charging/storage, and centralized metering of electricity and both solar-thermal and waste-heat hot water.
We are licensed General Contractors in all of our operating regions, with the capacity to bond construction services. We have experience and expertise with most commercial-grade power systems.
We have veteran NABCEP-certified (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) professionals leading our sales, engineering, and production teams. The NABCEP certification is known as the “gold standard” for solar-energy training and experience. That means you’re getting the most highly skilled professionals in the solar energy industry.
In 2017, Solar Island Energy engineers also earned the coveted NABCEP PV System Inspector’s certification. There are fewer than 40 System Inspectors worldwide, and we are the only certified NABCEP PV System Inspector in the Caribbean.
We also provide commissioning, owner’s agent and forensic services to financial institutions, portfolio managers, building owners, and other solar developers. These clients rely on us for performance verification, warranty compliance, insurance settlement, and disbursement management. We also provide training to a variety of audiences: emergency first responders, architects, engineers, CARILEC, utility electricians, and university students.
CONTACT US TODAY
Fossil-fuel energy costs will ALWAYS continue to go up! TODAY is the BEST time to evaluate improving your energy performance. “Waiting” will deliver worse financial performance the longer you wait, because of the time value of money – we can show you why. Also, reducing your fossil fuel electricity usage sooner has another big benefit to the environment – we call it the “time value of carbon-emission reduction”. We thrive on creating the best energy solution for you and your Caribbean business.
We are eager to provide a free consultation to assess how you can benefit from solar energy, energy efficiency, and microgrid solutions. Please contact us today and let our skilled team help you meet your energy goals.
